An international student team from BRAC University, consisting of three members, won the first prize of USD 1,500 for their plastic recycling concept at the “Launch a Different World 2024” international pitch competition.
The project’s main goals are to empower communities, reduce plastic waste, and advance a circular economy by turning recycled plastic into affordable 3D printing materials and sustainable products.
Global Team Repurpose Prepares for Victory with Diverse Talents from Prominent Universities
Naturally the members of “Team Repurpose”, Mohammad Imran Uddin (MBA in Marketing), Mohiuddin Ahmed (BBA in Finance), and Abtahi Abrar (BBA in Marketing) are preparing at BRAC Business School of BRAC University. Of the becoming two members, Wei Jou Huang (MS in Oceanography) is a student at National Taiwan University, while Maria Vlaykova (BBA in Management) is via the American University in Bulgaria.
The team aims to achieve sustainability success in Bangladesh by launching a pilot project for 3D printing filament
The group intends to start a pilot program and provide their first batch of 3D printing filament for testing to businesses and services in Bangladesh that make personalized presents and architectural models. Additionally, they are pursuing partnerships with the 3D printing service provider Tangible Creative, the filament manufacturer Recycling Fabrik, and the Eindhoven University of Technology.
According to the team, Bangladesh holds the key to the future of sustainability, and if it can be achieved here, it can be achieved anywhere in the world.
Features of the Global Pitch Competition BRAC University’s social entrepreneurship excels in the OSUN practicum
The pitch competition took place during the Fall 2024 semester of the Open Society University Network’s (OSUN) Social Entrepreneurship Practicum course. Faculty from institutions and organizations in Bangladesh, Palestine, Kyrgyzstan, Bulgaria, the United States, Lithuania, South Africa, the Netherlands, the Philippines, and Ghana co-taught the course. Bard College sponsored the prize. Neealana Naushin of the School of General Education and Dr. Sebastian Groh of the BRAC Business School both teach the subject at BRAC University.
