According to a statement released by the Spanish football federation, Luis de la Fuente, the coach of Spain that won Euro 2024, extended his contract on Monday until 2028.
Faith in de la Fuente is restored by RFEF
“The Spanish football federation opted to renew its faith in Luis de la Fuente, that he will remain as national coach until after the European Championship in 2028,” the RFEF stated in its statement.
Spain’s 63-Year-Old Manager
The 63-year-old has been in charge since 2022 and led Spain to victory in the Euro final last year against England after winning the Nations League title in 2023.
The 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, as well as Euro 2028 in Britain and Ireland, are included in his contract extension.
De la Fuente’s Career
De la Fuente won the European under-19 and under-21 titles while coaching a number of Spain’s age-group teams.
After Spain lost to Morocco in the 2022 World Cup last-16, he replaced Luis Enrique as captain of the senior squad.
Spain won all seven of their games in Germany last year, stomping to a record-breaking fourth European Championship victory.
