As Dhaka records the lowest BPL season total, Barishal confirms their qualifying spot

BPL

At the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, Fortune Barishal crushed the Dhaka Capitals by nine wickets, securing a top-two finish in the league stage of the Bangladesh Premier League.

Dhaka’s BPL Scores

Dhaka hitters were hammered by Barishal bowlers, who dismissed them for the lowest score in this year’s BPL, 73 runs in 15.3 overs. Durbar Rajshahi’s 80 against Chittagong Kings at Chattogram on January 20 was the previous lowest total in this year’s BPL.

Tanvir Islam, a left-arm spinner, terrorized Dhaka by dismissing Liton Das (10) and Riaz Hassan (0) in the same over. Faheem Ashraf (three for 15) and Mohammad Nabi (three for nine) then joined in.

Barishal’s BPL Victory

In response, Barishal lost Towhid Hridoy (15) in the third over, but the victory was secured in just 6.3 overs thanks to an unbroken 56-run partnership between captain Tamim Iqbal (21 off 14 balls not out) and Dawid Malan (37 off 16 balls not out). The 81-ball triumph is the largest team victory in BPL history, beating the previous record of 73 balls set by the Dhaka Dynamites against the Sylhet Sixers in 2017.

Barishal’s Qualifier 1 Position

With 18 points from 11 games, Barishal has already secured their spot in Qualifier 1. They will either play Rangpur Riders (16 points) or Chittagong (12 points).
In the meantime, Chittagong defeated Rangpur by five wickets in the opening match of the day, forcing Dhaka, who are currently ranked sixth, out of the competition.
